Our cellar is located in the heart of Dentelles de Montmirail, in the commune of Gigondas. Our vineyard covers 260 hectares producing Gigondas, Vacqueyras and Beaumes de Venise wines, as well as Côtes du Rhône, Villages and IGP. Since 1956, our winemakers harvesters, ambassadors of the Crus of the Rhone Valley, grow their vines in a reasoned way to always respect our terroirs. Our wines are the image of these passionate people, proud of their values and their personality.
Gigondas is one of the largest communes of Vaucluse, of less than 600 inhabitants, leaned with Dentelles de Montmirail, form of uplift of limestone slabs.
Between vineyards and minerality, the village is home to Gigondas LaCave, created in 1956 by a handful of winemakers, whose desire was the marketing of their production in bottles, and which today has eighty-three members and represents 15% of the appellation , 128 ha in AOP Gigondas, (260 ha all PDO confused). In this approach, yesterday as today, there is always a fierce, militant will to build from this land where we live, of which we live, to develop with the other vine growers a highly qualitative image of our wines from these exceptional terroirs around the Dentelles de Montmirail.
Gigondas LaCave manages the wine from the grapes of its cooperators. She performs in common the operations of vinification, breeding, storage, packaging and sale. In common does not mean a unique and undifferentiated vinification of production. LaCave vinifies separately from products sold under a domain name or selections made from the knowledge of the terroir or the production method, including our organic wines, our wines of excellence. By regrouping, the winemakers-cooperators have equipped themselves with powerful tools. Their traditional know-how, served by modern techniques, enables them to elaborate authentic wines of constant quality.
Gigondas La Cave received on Thursday May 24th, 2018, la " Distinction Wine Tourism" of InterRhône. A reward that aims to distinguish the tasting cellars that engage in the diversification of their wine tourism offer by offering a complementary service to the welcome to the cellar and cellar visit.
Respect for the environment and for people in their economic activity is essential in our way of seeing things. In addition, sustainable development and social responsibility are natural values of the cooperative spirit. Our cellar has been involved in the 3D approach since November 2012. This approach, initiated by the network of regional federations of agricultural cooperatives, was built in partnership with AFNOR. This is based on the international standard ISO 26000 and is a first step towards AFNOR's AFAQ 26000 performance recognition system. The aim is to combine, through this programme, three objectives: economic efficiency, social equity and environmental protection.
Gigondas LaCave has taken the turn of respecting the environment.... Taking advantage of the renovation of the cellar roof, the winegrowers of Gigondas LaCave have decided to produce renewable energy by installing photovoltaic panels (thanks to the abundant sunshine in the region). Work begins in spring 2011, the contract is signed in June 2011 and the work is completed on October 5, 2012. The station is commissioned on October 16, 2012 and to date we have produced 16,000 kwat of electricity sold to ERDF. The presentation of the plant is made by Mr. Succo, project manager at Générale du solaire; it is composed of 295 French panels guaranteed 25 years, 3 inverters guaranteed 10 years and we have a 20 year contract with ERDF. Our electricity production is higher than the cellar's electricity consumption.
